What UWW recycles?

The last friday we meet the UWW sustainability coordinator, Wesley Enterline. Each student asked a couple of questions. I was able to ask five, but one in particular was more important than the others. Everyone knows about the recycling in the campus, but only a few know what they recycle, so what can we throw in the recycle trashcan.

I asked Wesley "What kind of things the university recycle?"

Wesley said " virtually the standard of the state and the country. We recycle some kinds of metal like aluminum and steel, especially cans; we recycle glass; paper and plastic too, but these two are kind of tricky, there are some problems. Is not all the paper and plastic that is recycled, some of the paper are contaminated and plastic have different polymers, what difficult the process, but we recycle almost every plastic we found. We also use the food waste on a vermin compost, so, we can manage almost all the wast of the campus."

So now we know what we can trow on the recycle trashcan.

  1. Actually, I was also confused about plastic recycle before Wesley told us. Because, someone told me I should throw plastic into trash box, but someone else told me throw into recycle box. ......What should I do?

  2. You can recycle nearly everything in Whitewater! The important things that you CANNOT recycle are things like batteries, light bulbs, and food waste (unless put directly into vermipost, like on campus).
Great questions, you guys! You are making a difference in our ecosystem!
